Omsk We arrived at 8.00 pm am in the train 56 after 12 hours of travel (3054 rubles / 75 euros). We were accompanied by an old man and a young lad, who had already had a few beers before boarding the train, and that did not stop to talk to us in Russian. Although communication was difficult, exchanged food and impressions. The guy hallucinated that two English, which he said are surrounded by beautiful beaches, is away on holiday in Siberia. At
Omsk (3 hours ahead of Moscow) we leave the backpacks in the slogan of the station and caught a trolley bus to go downtown. Omsk is the first Siberian city we visited and were greeted with rain and a sudden drop in temperature. In the morning we were about 15 degrees, but then the sun came out a bit and was better.
Omsk is located near the border with Kazakhstan and is an important industrial center of over one million built on the confluence of the Irtysh and Om. Large avenues and old dilapidated concrete blocks dominate the suburbs, but the focus is more pleasant for walking. Not worth it to spend the night, but it is a good stop from one day to stretch and relax the train.
The city has some interesting churches, pleasant parks and beautiful nineteenth century facades in the historic center, just across the river Om. Near the river there are some terraces for a beer watching the life of a Siberian town so rarely visited by foreigners. On the banks of the Irtysh river pollution is a dirty beach sand. The
Lenin Square, dominated by the Soviet Theatre of Music, is another interesting place. On one side there is the old Duma city of red brick. Near the square are the war memorial With the eternal flame and a statue of Lenin.
the evening we returned to the station to catch the train to Novosibirsk .
