We reached the station Leningradsky Vokzal Moscow shortly after 5 am very sleepy in the body and we took the subway to go to Monroe hostel we had booked through e-mail.
The hostel turned out to be a hole where there was nobody at the reception until ten, so we went to breakfast and a walk. Of course when we returned they had no room because we had not prepaid and that e-mail that we had confirmed.
Luckily the girl in reception, very nice, we looked for alternative accommodation of the three hostels that are in the city, the Bulgakov, who was much better, although, like all the hostels in Moscow, nor is it to shoot rockets.
The best of Bulgakov is its location in the heart Arbat, Moscow's busiest shopping. The first two nights we were given a double room with private bathroom because they had shared bathroom, which was our reservation and left us at the same price (2,200 rubles / 55 euros). A bargain in the heart of Moscow. Then we changed to another with a shared bathroom. The registration of the visa is a robbery by Sablan you 700 rubles (18 euros).
accomplished our penance with the bureaucracy Russia could finally enjoy ourselves to the Russian capital, one of the world's most fascinating cities. Its attractions are endless, but here are a few essentials:
Red Square: simply awesome. The domes of St. Basil's Cathedral, the walls of the Kremlin, Lenin's tomb, GUM stores ... Never get tired of walking through the paved ground which so often paraded atomic potential of the USSR. Visit all the sights of this square and its surroundings (Bolshoi Theatre, Plaza de la Revolution, Alexandrovsky gardens, entering the Kremlin, etc..) Requires at least a couple of days.
Arbat Street: The most famous Moscow. It is a long pedestrian street full of shops, restaurants and terraces for a drink. In the evening attend many street musicians and even, you can attend a rock concert. Throughout the day there are painters and other artists.
Soviet Moscow: Stresses Exhibition Center All-Russia, now an amusement park full of buildings and pavilions of the Soviet era, which overlooks the Ostankino Television Tower (540 m). Nearby is the Monument to the Cosmonauts, an obelisk of 100 m which simulates a rocket launch. Another vestige of the USSR is the former headquarters of the KGB, in Lubyanskaya square, or the Stalinist skyscraper such as Ukraine or the vast hotel State University. Near Gorky Park you can visit the Sculpture Park, resting place of old statues of Lenin and Stalin, among others. Novodevichy Monastery
: By the waters of the Moskva river rises this haven of peace with churches and bell towers topped by onion domes shining. Behind its walls is the Novodevichy cemetery where lie the likes of Chekhov, Eisenstein, Nikita Khrushov, Molotov and Stalin's wife.
White House privileged scenario of the fall of the Soviet Union. It was where Boris Yeltsin stood up to Soviet tanks and ended the regime Communist in 1991. Two years later he was Yeltsin himself who ordered to open fire on protesters who tried to restore communism. 145 people died. Today, nostalgic for the USSR still remember the massacre in the park next door, which they collect press clippings, photos and messages critical of the new capitalism.
Moskva River: walk along the banks of the river, or browse, allows for excellent views from the heart of Moscow: The walls of the Kremlin, the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, the huge statue of Peter the Great, the hotel Ukraine ...
Metro: This alone is a work of art. Stations as Revolyutsii Ploshchad, Kievskaya Barrikadnaya or transport you to the times of the USSR. In addition to enjoy watching the seasons, the subway is the best means of transport for getting around Moscow. Cheaper and with a train every 40 seconds during rush hour.
Izmaylovo The Market , the Tretyakov Gallery , squares and Puskinskaya Triumfalnaya , churches Kitay-Gorod or stroll along the boulevards rounds are recommended elsewhere.
One day we went to Sergiev Posad , the city of Golden Ring closer to Moscow to visit his monastery, one of the most important Russia. The bus takes 70 minutes and caught the side of the Exhibition Center All-Russian (135 rubles / 3.5 euros). The entrance to the monastery costs 250 rubles (6 euros).
worst of our stay in Moscow and 40 degrees which made it impossible to sleep at night, was that we agree with the worst wave of arson in Russian history. There were a couple of days the city was completely covered with smoke and visibility was no more than 100 meters. People came with a mask on the street and gave us still in a supermarket. It was a shame because it prevented us from taking good pictures, as well as take away a few years of life, of course.
After four nights and five days in Moscow went to the Kazan station to catch the night train to the capital of Tatarstan and start the real Trans. Tickets are purchased at the box office Kazan station the second day of our stay in Moscow. We buy the following sections: Moscow-Kazan (2,320 rubles / 59 euros) and Kazan, Yekaterinburg (2425 / 61 euros).
