Leopoldo Fernandez

Family of former prefect of Pando, Leopoldo Fernandez, reported at noon on Thursday that the former authority, the main accused in the slaughter of so-called Porvenir, was abruptly transferred from the prison of San Pedro to the prison's maximum security Chonchocoro. Giana Fernández, daughter of former Mayor, said his father was taken from prison "by deception" and called the action an "outrage" Internal Regime.

Fernandez explained that he left the prison in San Pedro with his attorney to attend a hearing called, but it was never fulfilled. The prison authorities in San Pedro did not react officially announced that they will in the coming hours.

Fernandez is being held in jail in La Paz since September 2008 after the events recorded in the Amazonian population of Porvenir in the department of Pando, where at least 17 people, mostly farmers, were ambushed and killed.

Former Mayor and 26 others face a trial in the Sixth Court Judgement of La Paz on charges of terrorism, murder, homicide, serious and minor injuries, and conspiracy.
